Samuel Stewart, Sr., 97, formerly of Blytheville, Ark. died Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at St Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tenn. Samuel Stewart, Sr., 97, formerly of Blytheville, Ark. died Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at St Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tenn. Born July 12, 1927, in Blytheville, to the late Allen Stewart and the late Virginia Pitts-Stewart. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for both the Blytheville School District and Agrico up until his retirement. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Lafalene Stewart and to their union was born nine children. He was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he followed his passion to become a minister. After Virginia’s untimely death, Allen married Vera Hopkins. Together Allen and Vera lovingly raised Samuel and his siblings.

He was preceded in death by one son, Fredrick Stewart; one daughter, Doris Pitts; seven brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by three sons, Samuel Stewart, Jr. (Toni), of Memphis, Tenn., Danny Stewart (Wendy), of Benton, Ark., and Trent Stewart, of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Barbara Redmond, of Little Rock, Ark., Gwendolyn Woodson, of Blytheville, Linda Haynes (Elbert), of Cordova, Tenn., and Virginia VanWinkle (Michael), of Allen, Texas; three brothers, James Stewart (Linda), Jerry Stewart, and Edward Stewart; two sisters, Iulla Mixon and Deborah Robinson (Andrew); host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 3565 Kimball Ave, Memphis, Tenn. A Zoom for service will be available with the following Zoom ID: 2667950168; Password: 1243.
