Flip through the pages of history with us. This week’s edition includes a bit of history from the past 150 years as recorded in the pages of The Osceola Times. Take a glimpse at the past, discover your ancestors and walk in the shoes of the county’s pioneers. Discover the history of education, transportation, businesses, city government, industry, sports and agriculture.

The past is not in the past as long as it affects our future. And, only by looking back can we learn to march forward. This special edition is meant to educate, but also entertain. May it bring questions to your mind, concerns to your heart and a smile to your face.

Take the time to explore the ink on the pages and maybe share them with your children. There is no place like home, but what about home makes it so special? Share the stories, the memories, the legacy...

David Brower once said, “We must begin thinking like a river if we are to leave a legacy of beauty and life for future generations.”

Mississippi County was discovered, molded and built by men and women who dared to think like the river. They knew bigger and better things were to come, but someone had to take the first step. We could all learn from a man like the great Harold Ohlendorf - a man who thought of others first - a man who wanted to help pull his fellow men up by their boot straps. When opportunity knocked, he not only opened the door, but swung it wide and invited the entire community inside. He was successful in his own right, but not at the expense of others.

This has long been a community of hard working people standing shoulder-to-shoulder, hand- in-hand. May we share their triumphs and learn from their wisdom.

Enjoy a glance at our past and look forward to the future... the stars are bright and there are no limits.
